Eye Conditions

Cataracts

As we age, the lens of the eye becomes mistier and opaque. It’s similar to looking through a fog, or patchy vision, that makes it harder to focus. When you are young, the lens is clear, but as you age, the lens becomes more and more opaque than before. A cataract begins yellowish in colour, then turns brown, and then eventually it goes white. As a cataract changes, it impairs the amount of light that can get into your eye.

We offer the following treatment for cataracts:

Nearsightedness (Myopia)

Also known as nearsightedness, myopia happens when the eyeball is too long from front to back, or the eye’s focusing mechanism is too strong. This causes light rays to be focused in front of, rather than on, the retina. People with myopia have difficulty seeing distant objects. We can correct this refractive abnormality with a minus (negative or concave) lens. The image below illustrates where the light focuses in normal vision and in a nearsighted eye.

We offer the following treatments for Nearsightedness:

Farsightedness (Hyperopia)

Apart from being a vision problem, farsightedness can result in eyestrain. If you are farsighted, your eyes have trouble seeing objects up close and need to work harder to do so. This effort causes eye strain. Sometimes, your symptoms will be a result of the farsightedness and the eye strain that farsightedness induces.

We offer the following treatments for Farsightedness:

  • PiXL Vision Correction Procedure
  • Custom Bladeless LASIK
  • Custom PRK

Fortunately, you can correct the effects of astigmatism with corrective lenses or permanently correct astigmatism with laser vision correction. Instead, think of astigmatism as just one of the many beautiful and infinite differences we see in all of us.

We offer the following treatments for Astigmatism:

Dry Eye

Living with dry eye disease can have a negative impact on your life, affecting your vision as well as causing many uncomfortable symptoms, including: These symptoms can affect your day to day living, making it difficult to see when sudden blurriness occurs. The ongoing discomfort and self-consciousness often caused by constant red eye can also add stress to your life. Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes do not produce sufficient lubrication.

We offer the following treatments for Dry Eye Disease:

  • LipiFlow® Thermal Pulsation

Presbyopia

Many people in their early 40s and 50s will experience these presbyopia symptoms: Presbyopia occurs when the lens inside your eye (the clear structure that is about the size of a Smartie) begins to lose its flexibility. Normally, the muscles around the lens can change its shape. When you look at something far away, the circular muscle relaxes. When you look at something up close, the muscle contracts. That allows the relatively elastic lens to curve.

We offer the following treatment for Presbyopia:

  • Laser Blended Vision PRESBYOND

Keratoconus

Depending on ethnicity, keratoconus affects up to one in 450 people. It is more common in non-Caucasians. We can usually diagnose keratoconus in young people at puberty, in their late teens or early twenties. Your optometrist can detect early stages of keratoconus. In the early stages, keratoconus will not affect your vision. Keratoconus does not cause blindness. If you don’t address keratoconus, however, the cornea can change further in shape. It can become thinner.

We offer the following treatment for Keratoconus:

  • Laser Light Transepithelial Crosslinking
