Although it is exciting to imagine your excellent eyesight once we have completed your procedure, it is essential to understand what the LASIK procedure entails.

Every person is unique and has personal features that will ultimately influence their results.

That is why it is crucial for every patient to schedule a comprehensive pre-operative appointment to assess whether or not they are a good candidate for a laser vision correction procedure.

You’ve booked! Now what?

  • Upon scheduling your pre-op appointment, you will want to take the appropriate amount of time off of work. We might take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours to complete your pre-operative assessments.
  • During the pre-op exam, we will dilate your eyes. Dilation drops will increase your sensitivity to the light for several hours following your appointment. Some patients choose to bring a driver with them.

The pre-operative appointment day

When you arrive for your pre-operative appointment at the Clearview Institute, a friendly receptionist will promptly greet you.

They will then ask you to complete a patient history sheet that gathers information on your general health, visual health, medications, allergies, and other specific medical issues that you may have.

We will then take you into the evaluation room where you will undergo a combination of painless assessments.

Once we have completed all of the assessments, one of our optometrists will carefully review the information and perform a comprehensive eye exam.

They will then meet with you to discuss your potential candidacy for the LASIK procedure. Depending on your situation and results, they may consider some alternative treatments as well.

Once both you and the doctor have decided on the best treatment, you will meet with a patient consultant to discuss any questions that you may have regarding the procedure.

Not only will you be able to consider the surgery, but you can discuss your payment options as well.

The patient consultant will then schedule your appointment for the procedure.

Finally, you will leave the clinic with a detailed patient information package outlining everything that you discussed.

Details to remember for your pre-operative appointment

  • Bring your sunglasses: Dilated eyes have an increased sensitivity to the sunlight. Wearing your sunglasses will make you more comfortable in bright conditions.
  • Arrange for a driver: You may also want to arrange for someone to drive you home after the appointment as many people find it hard to drive with their eyes dilated.

The receptionists, patient consultants, and surgeons at the Clearview Institute are hugely experienced in arranging and performing LASIK procedures. We are excited to help you on your path to a more precise vision.
